Prepare the board, then take the chain
The Gunslinger is strongest when the squad treats its turn as a payoff rather than an opening move. Soften targets, remove their cover, and check every chance-to-hit before committing. A kill that restores an Action Point is much stronger when the next target is already inside the weapon’s effective range.
The class has a higher ceiling than a steady single-target shooter, but it needs a readable order of operations. It is ideal for players who enjoy turning several modest advantages into one decisive round.
Core abilities at a glance
| Tool | Job in the squad | Planning note | | --- | --- | --- | | Open Fire | Burst attacks distributed across targets | Best when a support buff can improve every shot | | Quick Draw | Low-cost finishing shot | Aim for an enemy the squad has already softened | | Keen Eye | Ranged critical chance | Benefits from clear lines, exposed targets, and elevation | | Onslaught | Damage grows through repeated attacks | Reward for keeping the chain alive |
A clean Gunslinger turn
- Let a teammate expose or damage the easiest kill.
- Confirm the first shot is likely to finish the target, not merely wound it.
- Take Quick Draw and use the restored Action Point to reach the next prepared enemy.
- Spend the chain before moving into a risky, isolated position.
Avoid leading with the Gunslinger when several targets are still full health. The class can shoot often, but it is not a replacement for setup. If an enemy survives the first shot and the team has no second target ready, the payoff disappears.
Pairings worth testing
Gunslinger + Medic
Support abilities that improve damage or accuracy can turn every shot in a multi-attack sequence into a stronger result. This is a good pairing for a squad that plans one high-value offense turn while the Medic keeps the group stable.
Gunslinger + Scout
Scout tools help the Gunslinger find and exploit an exposed angle. Use the mobility to claim elevation or sight-lines, but do not sacrifice a safe firing position only to get one extra target.
Gunslinger + Soldier
A reliable Soldier-style primary role gives the operator a consistent contribution on turns where a chain is not available. Choose this when a campaign has too many missions where targets start far apart.
Common failure points
- Spending the first action on a low-probability shot.
- Moving so far for one target that the next attack has no legal line.
- Treating every low-health enemy as a chain target without checking range and cover.
- Forgetting that a safer one-kill turn can be better than a greedy sequence that leaves the squad exposed.
